About this dataset

The CHAS dataset consists of custom tabulations from the U.S. Census Bureau used to identify households in need of housing assistance. It provides counts of households with specific HUD‑defined characteristics—such as income levels, housing problems, and demographic attributes—across thousands of geographic areas. The data are organized into thematic tables, each containing multiple dimensions that classify households into detailed “buckets.” CHAS supports housing market analysis by documenting issues like affordability challenges, overcrowding, and inadequate facilities. Since the data are provided as counts, users must perform their own calculations to derive percentages or rates
